The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) honored P.W. Gillibrand Co.’s Meghan Neal as its James M. Christie Safety & Health Professional of the Year award winner.

NSSGA recognized Neal during an awards presentation Tuesday at its annual Legislative & Policy Forum in Washington.

“In the spirt of this award, which is centered around individual behaviors and proactive practices instead of unsafe conditions, I have reflected on how one individual’s contribution can have an impact not only on those around you, but on the industry as a whole,” says Neal, who serves P.W. Gillibrand as director of environmental health and safety. “Day-to-day actions start small – seemingly insignificant, but nonetheless build upon each other to create a legacy and a solid culture over time.”

According to NSSGA, Neal is well known by her industry peers for instituting safety practices and her engagement in the association’s Health & Safety Committee.

Started in 1987, the James M. Christie Safety & Health Professional of the Year award is named for James M. Christie, who challenged the Mine Safety & Health Administration to focus regulations on the safety practices of managers and worker behavior – and not strictly on a facility’s conditions. NSSGA now recognizes individuals for substantial commitment and contributions to safe and healthy practices within their company – and the industry.
