How Great Lakes limestone shipments fared in 2023
Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 28.6 million tons in 2023, according to the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA).
Last year’s tonnage is a decrease of less than 1 percent compared to 2022. The total was below the trade’s five-year average by 1.1 percent, LCA says.
Loadings from U.S. quarries increased less than 1 percent in 2023 to 23.1 million tons. The shipments were below their five-year average by less than 1 percent, the association adds.
2023 shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 5.5 million tons, a 4.4 percent decrease compared to 2022 and 1.8 percent below the five-year average.
