Superior Industries unveiled an enhanced conveyor idler, describing its innovation as “the most significant redesign to conveyor idlers in decades.”

The company’s new idler involves several developments, including an ironclad weld joint at tube to end disc; revamped designs of idler bearing seals; and upgrades to idler manufacturing.

“Tens of thousands of Superior idlers are installed on our own conveyors every year, so roll performance really, really matters,” says Jason Adams, president of Superior, which says its idler update is backed by a $4.5 million investment in cutting-edge manufacturing equipment at its U.S. production locations. “The new idler exceeds our own high-performance standards, and we’re excited for other conveyor owners and operators to benefit from this upgrade.”

Special features

According to Superior, the flush end disc prevents material entrapment between the roll and the frame. Also, weld bead is securely housed within the rolls structure to ensure added durability.

Superior says modern, robotic welding allows for greater weld penetration and extreme consistency. A decade of testing resulted in an unmatched bearing protection system, the company adds, while a Titanium seal provides extended longevity for demanding applications.

Superior also says it has achieved new heights in manufacturing speed, with its manufacturing production rate of standard and custom idlers experiencing a 35 percent increase.
