Cemex unveiled the first fully-electric, zero-emissions ready-mixed concrete truck in the Middle East this week during COP28 in the United Arab Emirates.

COP28 refers to the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which is taking place Nov. 30-Dec. 12 in Dubai.

According to Cemex, the truck it unveiled is fully operational and has the capacity to transport a full load of concrete. It is equipped with a 350-kilowatt hours battery that allows it to complete an average full workday with a single recharge.

Cemex is currently collaborating with partners and manufacturers to discover, pilot, learn and scale solutions that can support hybrid and zero-emission vehicles to be available at scale.

At the same time, Cemex says it is adding trucks powered by renewable diesel and natural gas. The company says these trucks have carbon footprints that are 70 percent and 25 percent lower than regular diesel, respectively. The company says these transitional technologies will enable a reduction in carbon emissions in the short term as heavy-duty electric vehicles become viable at scale.
