Founded in 1946, Schlegel Sand & Gravel is a supplier of aggregate materials – including sand, gravel, topsoil and stone – for both commercial and residential use in the greater Lansing area. According to the company’s website, it currently has nine gravel pits operating in the area.

The producer also has a permanent recycling facility for recycling and selling crushed asphalt and crushed concrete.

“By acquiring Schlegel Sand & Gravel, Carmeuse expands its geographical reach within the state of Michigan,” says Yves Willems, president and CEO of Carmeuse. “In addition, the high-quality products sold by Schlegel Sand & Gravel complement the construction aggregates sold from our quarries on the Great Lakes.”

Adds Jack Fahler, Carmeuse COO: “Acquiring Schlegel Sand & Gravel advances our strategy to grow the construction business. Schlegel Sand & Gravel is a well-managed company with a strong customer base.”

Mark Schlegel, vice president and part owner of Schlegel Sand & Gravel, echoes Willems’ and Fahler’s excitement about the acquisition.

“We are pleased to close this transaction with Carmeuse,” he says. “It is a good deal for both parties.”
