Steve Zelnak, a former president, CEO and chairman of the board at Martin Marietta, retired from the company’s board of directors after 27 years of service.

Zelnak, who was enshrined in the Pit & Quarry Hall of Fame in 2016, reached the mandatory retirement age provided in Martin Marietta’s bylaws and was ineligible for election at the company’s 2020 annual meeting of shareholders.

“On behalf of our board and shareholders, I extend our collective heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation to Steve Zelnak for the decades of service and insights he provided to our company,” says Ward Nye, chairman, president and CEO of Martin Marietta. “Steve always gave generously of his time and consistently provided thoughtful judgment, advice and more – all of which were invaluable to Martin Marietta’s success.”

Dave Wajsgras was elected to Martin Marietta’s board in place of Zelnak. According to Martin Marietta, Wajsgras served as president of the intelligence, information and services business of the former Raytheon Co., now part of Raytheon Technologies Corp. Wajsgras previously served as Raytheon’s senior vice president and CFO.

“We are excited to welcome Dave to Martin Marietta’s board of directors,” Nye says. “He is an experienced public company executive who is well-versed in financial and operating matters, technology transformation and corporate governance. Dave’s expertise will provide us with valuable insight on matters critical to our business.”

With the addition of Wajsgras and the retirement of Zelnak, Martin Marietta’s 10-member board of directors consists of nine outside independent directors – six of whom joined since 2016.

Martin Marietta is a U.S.-based company and a supplier of building materials, including aggregate, cement, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt. The company has a network of operations spanning 27 states, Canada and the Bahamas.
