What investments are ahead for MDU Resources?

MDU Resources provided a sense of the capital investments it plans to make over the next five years, which it anticipates to total more than $3 billion.

Within the company’s construction materials and contracting business segment, MDU expects to spend $189 million in 2021, $154 million in 2022 and $150 million in 2023. In 2020, MDU made $162 million in investments within the business segment.

According to MDU, whose subsidiary includes Knife River Corp., development of the company’s Honey Creek Quarry in Burnet County, Texas, is underway and is included in the forecast. Most of MDU’s investments in its overall construction materials and services businesses will be focused on organic expansion opportunities and normal equipment and plant replacements and upgrades.

MDU is also constructing a new prestress concrete plant in Spokane, Washington, where the company recently acquired prestress assets, several new materials plants and a training facility for employees.
