Titan America’s Pennsuco Quarry in Medley, Florida, was awarded the National Mining Association’s (NMA) Sentinel of Safety Award in the Large Quarry Group.

The Pennsuco Quarry and plant manager Robert Martin will be recognized for the achievement at an NMA awards presentation at MINExpo International 2021 in Las Vegas.

NMA issues Sentinels of Safety awards every year to the nation’s safest mines, with a minimum of 4,000 injury-free hours.

This is the seventh win over the years for Pennsuco Quarry, Titan America says.

“To receive this award again, especially during a pandemic year, is a testament to the Pennsuco team’s focus and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment,” says Walter Reed, senior vice president of aggregates at Titan America.

According to Titan America, a total of 393,825 man-hours were logged without a lost-time incident at the quarry. The company says the Pennsuco Quarry is the fifth-largest quarry in the U.S., producing more than 7.5 million tons of limestone products each year.
