The Sunrock Group acquired an existing quarry located in Burnt River, Ontario.

The quarry spans 1,400 acres of aggregate reserves, and was bought from Brazil-based Votorantim Cimentos’ North American business unit, Canada Building Materials/St. Mary’s Cement.

The newly acquired reserves will allow the company, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, to supply construction materials to the Greater Toronto area, according to the company.

The company’s expansion into the Ontario construction materials market will expand its footprint in North America.

“The Sunrock Group is looking forward to building a strong Canadian company in the Greater Toronto area that is poised to supply high quality aggregates to construction projects throughout that market,” says Bryan Pfohl, chairman and CEO of The Sunrock Group.

The Sunrock Group will do business in Canada through its entity, Sunrock Canada Construction Materials ULC.

Founded in 1949 in Buffalo, New York, the privately held, family-owned company produces aggregate, recycled aggregate, hot mix asphalt, ready-mixed concrete and contracting services at its quarries and production facilities throughout the greater Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area.
