NAR NTEP-certified belt scales are designed to deliver exceptional stability and accuracy for use in applications requiring verifiable accuracy or commercial certification for billing purposes, according to Thayer. The company says the belt scales have been proven in multiple field trials requiring  ±0.125 percent accuracy verified through independent certification. One advantage of the Thayer scale design is belt speed measurement that’s located at the scale to ensure precise speed measurement. Other benefits are immunity to belt stretch errors and calibration test weights that are applied at the secondary lever to fully exercise the scale without requiring a bulky test chain.

Walz Scale achieved government legal-for-trade certification for its Walz Scanner volumetric measurement technology. The NTEP (National Type Evaluation Program) certification is the first of its kind in the U.S., Walz Scale says, and verifies the technology as an accurate volumetric bulk measurement system. According to the company, the Walz Scanner utilizes laser technology to scan and measure bulk material loads in trucks and railcars. The system operates like truck and rail scales yet allows operations to achieve legal-for-trade volumetric load measurements while a vehicle is in motion. The certification means the Walz Scanner can be used as a replacement to scales.
