ABB introduced the Baldor-Reliance HydroCool XT motor, which represents a new generation of water-cooled motors the company developed in response to market demands for improved technical features. According to ABB, the HydroCool XT offers customers the combination of flexible design, low maintenance and reliable performance in tough environments. Aggregates and mining are among the ideal applications for the motor, the company says. The HydroCool XT is quiet, versatile and available with induction or permanent magnet rotor technology, ABB adds. It can achieve the highest level (IE5) efficiency rating for energy savings. As ABB describes, water-jacket cooling offers higher thermal conductivity than air cooling, helping to extend motor life while eliminating the need for fans or air filters. The HydroCool XT is available in four frame sizes, from 60 to 1,250 hp.

Belt cleaner redesign means reduced maintenance time

Superior Industries updated its Exterra conveyor belt cleaners so operators can reduce the time required to maintain scraping systems. According to Superior, a new fast-acting click tensioner is available for the primary and secondary Exterra models. After an installation, operators twist the tensioning unit a prescribed number of times to set the proper force. Click-count instructions are labeled on the aluminum housing that protects the springs. Additionally, Superior says its SFL (set for life) scraper models are now manufactured with a special extruded tube. The tube is designed to house the springs and seal them from fugitive material. Exterra belt cleaners with the SFL option require tensioning just once at the time of installation, the company says. Accurate tension is maintained automatically – with no required maintenance – for the entire life of the blade.

Dump trucks feature new styling, cab layout

John Deere expanded its Performance Tiering portfolio, adding articulated dump trucks (ADTs) to its equipment lineup. The 410 and 460 ADTs, which are new to John Deere’s P-Tier, retain the same fuel efficiency, dump body and drive modes as the previous E-II models, the company says. Additional updates to the external styling and interior cab layout modernize the fleet, John Deere says, and the ADTs retain the productivity users are familiar with. The new machines feature a range of standard onboard settings to help ease operation and increase efficiency during any application, John Deere adds. Helping to provide more customization, John Deere says customers can choose from two different trim levels, as well as add a variety of optional packages for enhanced operator comfort, cold weather conditions, debris management and maintenance and service capabilities.

Bearing and seal solutions for conveyors

Schaeffler products and service solutions, available from Motion, are engineered to improve the performance and reliability of conveyor systems. According to Motion, Schaeffler’s new generation of SAF500-series pillow block housings combines high load-carrying capacity with reliable performance and versatility. Able to accept a range of shaft diameters from 1 3/8 in. to 8 in., Motion says Schaeffler SAF housings are available in ductile or gray cast iron. To keep contamination at bay in these applications, Schaeffler’s sealing solutions – including MaxTAC and SuperTAC taconite seals – fit directly into the labyrinth seal grooves of standard SAF-series housings. Additionally, to minimize unplanned downtime when replacing a worn bearing, Motion says split bearings such as split SRBs and the new FAG split cylindrical-housed assembly allow for quick and easy mounting and dismounting.

Capture truck weights with bluetooth scales

The BIT air scale from Blue Ink Tech gives truck drivers access to real-time weight information on their phones and tablets using the BIT app. Utilizing two small, wireless sensors, Blue Ink Tech says the BIT air scale self-installs in less than 15 minutes. The system integrates into the company’s existing web portal, allowing carriers to see how much weight each of their trucks is carrying at any given moment. Because the app delivers real-time updates on weight, drivers can monitor weight as trucks are being loaded. The BIT air scale installs directly into the suspension airline with no need for additional wiring. Once sensors are in place, drivers weigh their truck twice – once empty and once full – and enter weights into the app. After that, Blue Ink Tech says the system handles the rest.

Control bin levels, detect plugged chutes

The CR Roto-Level control from Conveyor Components Co. can be either top mounted or side mounted on most types of storage bins. It functions as a high-level or low-level indicator to monitor material overflow, empty bins, plugged chute conditions, jammed conveyors, bag house dust levels, product spillage or damaged equipment. Aggregates is among the controls’ common applications, the company says. Operation of the electro-mechanical device is done with a paddle wheel that’s connected to a low-torque AC synchronous motor. In the absence of material, the paddle rotates continuously inside the bin at 1 rpm.  When the paddle meets resistance from accumulated material within the bin, it transfers its torque to two or three microswitches. The 20-amp switches can be used to control equipment involved with the start-stop operations of conveyors, elevators and feeder systems.
