SME announces conference keynote speaker

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) announced Douglas Silver will be the keynote speaker at its 2017 Annual Conference & Expo and the Colorado Mining Association’s 119th National Western Mining Conference, taking place Feb. 19-22 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The theme for the 2017 conference is “Creating Value in a Cyclical Environment,” according to SME. Silver’s keynote, “When are Commodity Prices Going to Rebound?” will cover how the world has changed in the past 10 years, its impact on commodity prices and the ramifications to the minerals industry.

The event also will include 120 technical sessions, focusing on aspects of the mining industry, including assessing capital, bulk material handling, career development, coal and energy, environment, health and safety, industrial minerals, geology, mine management and more.

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration is a professional society with more than 15,000 members who represent all professions serving the mining, minerals and underground construction industries in more than 100 countries. Its goal is to advance the worldwide minerals community through information exchange and professional development.
