The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) is now accepting applications for the 2016 scholarship season through Oct. 15.

SME, the SME Foundation and the Woman’s Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (WAAIME) awarded 157 scholarships totaling $372,500 to student members attending U.S. and international colleges and universities last year, according to SME.

“A key mission of SME is to foster interest in and facilitate the study of mining and mineral-related courses at institutions of higher learning by providing scholarships to qualified students,” says David Kanagy, SME’s executive director. “We are proud to be able to provide these educational opportunities to the future leaders of the global mining community.”

The SME divisions and affiliations offering scholarships include coal and energy; environmental; industrial minerals and aggregates; mineral and metallurgical processing; mining and exploration; WAAIME; and the SME Foundation.
