Ranking the nation’s top 20 sand and gravel producers

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) published its latest list of the top 20 construction sand and gravel producers in the United States.

The leading U.S. producing companies are listed below, in descending order, based on their 2016 production.

  1. CRH Materials Americas
  2. Vulcan Materials Co.
  3. Lehigh Hanson
  4. LafargeHolcim
  5. Cemex
  6. MDU Resources
  7. Martin Marietta
  8. Granite Construction
  9. Mitsubishi Cement Corp.
  10. Summit Materials
  11. CalPortland Co.
  12. Teichert
  13. Clyde Cos.
  14. Bureau of Land Management
  15. Trinity Industries
  16. Wm. D. Scepaniak Construction
  17. L.G. Everist
  18. Ash Grove Cement Co. (now CRH)
  19. Colas
  20. Gila River Indian Community

The combined production of the top 20 companies is down slightly to 269 million metric tons (Mt). The 269 Mt represents 30 percent of the nation’s total production.

The combined production of the top 100 companies is 426 Mt – 48 percent of the national total.
