Quarry Faces: May 2023

By |  May 31, 2023

ConExpo-Con/Agg came and went in a flash, but several Pit & Quarry representatives were in Las Vegas for the duration of the March 14-18 trade show. This year’s ConExpo-Con/Agg included a media day March 13. The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Annual Convention, also in Las Vegas, had P&Q staffers bouncing back and forth between the Encore At Wynn and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Here’s a look at a few of the folks P&Q encountered at the two industry events.

In the Silver Lot outside the convention center, Matleena Melasaari and Eva-Leena Varpe offered details about an electric concept drill rig Sandvik had in its exhibit. According to Sandvik, the electric concept drill demonstrates the advanced technologies that will be introduced on future series drill rigs, supporting more sustainable and energy-efficient surface drilling.

McLanahan president and CEO Sean McLanahan (right), the sixth generation of family ownership and management, attended the press conference along with his father, Michael McLanahan.

Like several Pit & Quarry representatives, many others from across the industry spent time in Las Vegas at the NSSGA Annual Convention, which was held jointly with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Portland Cement Association. P&Q shared a moment with Founders Advisors’ Dennis Coker (left) and Jackson Gutshall during a reception held jointly by the associations.

Among those capturing all of the ConExpo-Con/Agg content you see within this month’s edition were Pit & Quarry’s Marie Emerick (far left), Jack Kopanski (second from left) and Kevin Yanik (far right). Dino Vitanza (center) and Rob Fulop (second from right) joined the magazine’s editors above the Silver Lot for this photo ahead of ConExpo-Con/Agg’s opening day.
