The Portland Cement Association (PCA) dedicated the month of June to safety, focusing on four common incidents cement manufacturers and their employees must be aware of and control to eliminate injuries and illnesses.

The four topics PCA will focus on this month are lockout-tagout (June 5-9), haul truck safety (June 12-16), fall prevention (June 19-23) and respirators (June 26-30).

The observance of June as PCA Safety Month is concurrent with the National Safety Council’s designation of June as National Safety Month.

“No industry is successful in meeting consumer demand without the daily contributions of a dedicated workforce,” says Mike Ireland, PCA president and CEO. “PCA member companies know that to keep employees motivated and productive, they must provide them with a safe workplace environment and have well-developed plans in place should emergencies or accidents occur. The well-being of workers has and always will be the top priority of our industry.”

PCA developed an online Safety Month toolkit that contains safety information, social media graphics and more. PCA plans to host videos from industry executives with safety messages about several topics, and its toolkit will be updated throughout June with new materials.

“Protecting employee safety and health in cement manufacturing is the goal PCA, its members and their employees work toward every day,” says Tom Harman, senior director of PCA. “To support this goal, members of PCA’s Occupational Health & Safety Committee created safety and health education materials to focus employees’ attention on four critically important safety and health topics, and PCA is pleased to offer these resources to the industry.”
