Fifty producers were presented with Community Relations Excellence Awards by the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA), which acknowledged their involvement in the community to enhance the public’s perception of their businesses, facilities and the industry.

NSSGA awarded one platinum award, five gold, eight silver and 37 bronze.

“A strong relationship with our communities provides value to the facility and the citizens around it,” says Michael Johnson, NSSGA president and CEO. “These awards allow us to celebrate those companies and their teams who build ties within their local communities that advance individuals’ knowledge about aggregates and the benefits that the industry provides to their neighborhoods and the country as a whole.”

Additionally, NSSGA awarded a National Star of Excellence Award, which is presented to operations with multiple gold awards in safety, community relations or environmental excellence within a five-year period. NSSGA had one member company this year with two different facilities achieve that honor. Cemex’s 474 Sand Mine received the Star of Excellence for its 2021 Community Relations Excellence and 2018 Environmental Excellence Awards.

Cemex’s Brooksville Quarry, meanwhile, received two Star of Excellence Awards for its Community Relations Excellence and and Environmental Excellence Awards in 2021.
