The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Manufacturers & Services (M&S) Division selected Gregory Meyer, a senior at Virginia Tech, as the recipient of its 2017 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Scholarship.

According to NSSGA, Meyer, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in mining and minerals engineering, was chosen for his academic achievements and intent to a pursue a career in the aggregate industry.

Through his internships, Meyer learned about the daily operations of an aggregate quarry, including operating mobile equipment and performing plant equipment maintenance. He also helped coordinate quarry tours with local boy scout and cub scout troops, NSSGA says.

“Greg has a well-demonstrated interest in the aggregates industry, as shown by his internships at NSSGA members Martin Marietta and Tilcon Connecticut,” says Rich Blake of Mellott Co., who is also NSSGA’s M&S Division chair. “Greg exemplifies the kind of bright, hardworking person who will excel in our industry. The M&S Division is proud to award this year’s Barry K. Wendt Scholarship to him and look forward to his accomplishments in the aggregates industry.”
