Schurco Slurry introduced a shaft seal arrangement for slurry pumps that can replace standard packed stuffing box arrangements.

Developed in partnership with a mechanical seal manufacturer, Schurco’s custom-engineered seal is specifically tailored to the aggressive environments to which these pumps are applied. The seal does not require pressurized flush water, the company says.

Instead, the seal utilizes a grease barrier fluid that quenches the inner-seal chamber to keep it both lubricated and cool for the life of the seal. The slurry pumps can then run continuously without the need for flush water with near-zero external leakage.

According to Schurco Slurry, the seals are a cartridge design, which, after a brief training, can be easily maintained by most maintenance staffs.

The shaft seal on any pump is often the most maintenance-prone component of the entire assembly, Schurco Slurry adds. When pump wet-end materials are selected appropriately, the parts most susceptible to wear and failure in a slurry pump are generally the packing and shaft sleeve of a stuffing box seal arrangement in the pump.
