Granite Construction is currently developing a new aggregate operation near Grantsville, Utah.

The site, located about 30 miles west of Salt Lake City on Interstate 80, covers about 640 acres. Granite says the material available there is in an alluvial deposit containing 99 million tons of recoverable rock.

“We are pleased to be moving forward with the Grantsville facility,” says Brad Estes, vice president of construction materials at Granite. “This facility will provide quality materials to Utah for decades and supports Granite’s home market strategy.”

Jason Klaumann, vice president of regional operations at Granite, says the Salt Lake City metro area is one of the fastest-growing areas in the U.S.

“Securing such an extensive reserve of material gives Granite lots of opportunity to capture all the work that will come with that growth,” Klaumann says.

Granite is currently designing the plant for the Grantsville facility, and it is assessing a variety of water-saving and waste-reduction equipment and technology options that are in line with its value of sustainability. The plant will be assembled in the coming months, Granite says, and the facility is expected to begin production next month.
