By |  August 16, 2015

Since man first ventured underground in search of valuable minerals, numerous methods of lighting the darkness have been employed.  Torches were first used, then oil lamps with simple wicks led the way. As technology advanced, candles and lanterns came along, followed by battery powered head lamps and electric lighting. Today, LED cap lamps are the next evolution in mine illumination.

Historical mining illumination equipment is on display at the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum, Leadville, Colo.
