Mined land reclamation award established in Illinois

By |  July 6, 2016

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Mines and Minerals created an annual Mined Land Reclamation Award program to recognize outstanding achievements in reclamation within Illinois.

According to the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP), the Mined Land Reclamation Award program is intended to identify and recognize companies and individuals who maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and apply innovative techniques to reclaim land following mining activities.

According to IAAP, Illinois aggregate producers are encouraged to participate in the Mined Land Reclamation Award program. The award application is available here. IAAP adds that all award applications must be submitted by Oct. 1.

The state of Illinois will nominate the winner of the Mined Land Reclamation Award to compete in the Interstate Mining Compact Commission’s Kenes C. Bowling National Mine Reclamation and the National Association of State Land Reclamationists’ award programs.
