Among the equipment Luff Industries had on display earlier this month at ConExpo-Con/Agg was its Wear Wolf wing pulley.

The Wear Wolf features an abrasive chromium carbide overlay plate that provides extreme wear characteristics and replaces AR plates or hard surface welds, according to Luff. The overlay plate provides four to five times the life of mild steel, says Matthew Fasoli, CEO of Luff.

“It’s a product that has been around for a few years but has never been used in this application,” Fasoli says. “We had to modify the input in order to get it to work in conjunction with our product. It was driven 100 percent from customers saying: ‘Can we have something that doesn’t wear out?’”

Fasoli says feedback from customers has been fantastic and that, in many cases, first-time buyers have come back for more Wear Wolf wing pulleys after running them for a season.

The Wear Wolf can be designed and sized for any application, including aggregates, asphalt, concrete and recycling. Because of the decreased maintenance the Wear Wolf offers operators, Fasoli says the pulley can provide relief on the labor front.

“In today’s market, labor has become the expensive component of running an operation,” he says. “Anytime we can eliminate labor – especially maintenance labor – or make something last longer, you can justify the cost of ownership.”
