Liebherr unveiled two new electric crawler excavators in the R 976-E and the R 980 SME-E.

Both excavators replace the ER 974 B, Liebherr says, and are available in backhoe and shovel versions. The machines were developed and built as electric excavators and are not just converted diesel engines, according to the company.

The R 976-E is powered by a high-voltage 6000V/50 Hz current collector, and features a switch cabinet transformer and a low-voltage cabinet for power distribution. In addition, control of 690 V, 230 V and 24 V networks are located on the machine’s upper carriage.

Each machine offers operators both comfort and safety, Liebherr says, as the cab features an automatic permanent air-conditioning and heating system and is equipped with a 9-in. screen. In addition, the cab’s exterior comes equipped with a 270-degree camera system as well as an armored windscreen and roof window.

Liebherr says the machines feature local zero emissions and reduced maintenance and operating costs, compared to a diesel-engine machine.
