Komatsu releases intelligent hydraulic excavator

Komatsu America Corp. introduced the PC290LCi-11 Tier 4 Final emissions-certified hydraulic excavator.

The PC290LCi-11 features intelligent Machine Control (iMC) based on Komatsu’s unique sensor package, including stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders, an IMU sensor and GNSS antennas. This technology utilizes 3D design data loaded in the control box to accurately check its position against the target to semi-automatically limit over-excavation, the company says.

“The PC290LCi-11 is perfect for applications where the customer is looking for good stability and working range, while avoiding the transportation limits of larger-size-class excavators,” says Andrew Earing, senior product manager of tracked equipment at Komatsu.

Other features of the PC290LCi-11 include auto grade assist, auto stop control, minimum distance control and a facing angle compass. A 6.69-liter, 196 hp, Environmental Protection Agency Tier 4 Final, SAA6D107E-3 engine powers the excavator. Also, the Komtrax level five technology provides data on fuel and diesel exhaust fluid levels, Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter, regeneration status, location, cautions and maintenance alert information.

The PC290LCi-11 also carries a 3D display to show work surfaces. The angle and magnification of the views can be changed, the company says, allowing operators to select a view best suited for work conditions. Intelligent Machine Control Joysticks provide operators a semi-automatic/manual-mode switching and design surface offset function that can be operated with switches on the control levers. Additionally, a Control Box uses a simple touch screen layout to display necessary information.
