Georgia Stone Products no stranger to turnkey builds

“They allow high-capacity stockpiling volume while eliminating any material segregation, so we can go straight from the pile to the customer’s truck,” he says. “We have eliminated extra material handling on a large portion of our total product sales mix.”

Trusting the process

Importantly, Boyd says the turnkey process allows Georgia Stone to achieve each of its goals within a desired timeframe.

“Superior was instrumental in designing plant logistics and traffic flow that works efficiently for us and for our customers,” he says.

According to Boyd, laying out the plant properly led to optimum traffic flow. From a safety standpoint, Georgia Stone sought to eliminate two-way traffic and minimize the interaction between mobile equipment, plant personnel and customer trucks.

“Our plant design [affords] the ability for one-way traffic that travels all the way around the plant in a counterclockwise motion,” he says. “Trucks enter and have access to any one of the product stockpiles in a one-way fashion – delivering greater efficiency for customers by minimizing time spent in the plant. It’s a seamless process.”

While most plant start-ups require tweaks and troubleshooting, Boyd says Superior helped to minimize any upfront pain that’s typically experienced.

“The reason for that is the mutual trust that comes from building a partnership throughout all the projects we’ve completed with Superior,” he says. “Our teams work well together. If there is a challenge or an issue to address, our two teams work as one to ensure the best solution. We listen, we learn more each time and each project is even better than the last.”
