The Pit & Quarry Roundtable & Conference was held Jan. 14-15 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Bonita Springs, Florida.

The intimate event, held just outside of Fort Myers, brought about 60 aggregate producers, equipment suppliers and other industry stakeholders together for education and networking.

The centerpiece of the annual P&Q event is a pair of roundtable discussions featuring attendees. This year, attendees touched on a variety of topics, including the state of the industry, capex spending, aggregate supply challenges, and safety policies and issues.

In addition to discussions around these topics, the Pit & Quarry Roundtable & Conference featured several speakers, including the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Michael Johnson, Ogletree Deakins’ Margo Lopez, FMI Capital Advisors’ George Reddin, and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ (AEM) Dana Wuesthoff.

Johnson, the president and CEO of NSSGA, addressed a number of developments impacting the industry on Capitol Hill while Lopez, the managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ Washington, D.C. office, offered the latest insights on the Mine Safety & Health Administration.

Reddin, a regular contributor to the Roundtable who serves FMI as managing director, delivered his annual construction materials market outlook for the year ahead. Wuesthoff, meanwhile, offered an exclusive preview of the March 10-14 ConExpo-Con/Agg, which she oversees as AEM’s vice president of exhibitions and event services.

In addition to these speakers, Pit & Quarry hosted a panel discussion that explored the aggregate industry from a generational standpoint. Wm. D. Scepaniak’s John Scepaniak served on the panel alongside Turner Mining Group’s Thomas Haun and Keaton Turner.

A number of attendees also played in an organized golf outing at Raptor Bay Golf Club, and a cocktail reception welcomed everyone to the event.

Full coverage of the 2020 Pit & Quarry Roundtable & Conference will be available in a special pullout report to appear within the April 2020 edition of the magazine.
