Drill rig among Atlas Copco’s MINExpo unveilings

By |  September 27, 2016

Atlas Copco debuted or showcased a number of innovations at MINExpo International 2016, including the SmartROC CL drill rig.

According to Atlas Copco, the SmartROC CL is designed for open pit miners who use down-the-hole drilling technology. The new rig consumes less fuel and features an increased penetration rate, the company says.

The engine power required to drive various functions and operations can now be controlled and optimized in a way that previously was not possible, Atlas Copco adds. This minimizes the amount of diesel fuel consumed overall.

Also, Atlas Copco says the design of the COPROD drill string, which, combined with a choice of high-powered rock drills up to 50 kilowatts, offers the kind of high penetration rates normally only achieved in top hammer drilling together with the superior hole quality that comes with down-the-hole drilling.

In addition to the SmartROC CL drill rig, Atlas Copco also showcased the SmartROC D65 at MINExpo. This is another drill rig for open pit mines, and it was recently upgraded with a fuel savings kit that further cuts fuel consumption.
