Aggregate producers who are in the market for new crushing and hydraulic breaking equipment had plenty to explore at ConExpo-Con/Agg.

A variety of new impactors and cones were present on the trade show floor, and solutions in jaws and breakers were on hand, too. Here’s a look at some of the equipment showcased in Las Vegas:

Cage mill launched, HSI on the stand

Stedman Machine Co. debuted its latest cage mill offering while highlighting a tried-and-true horizontal shaft impactor (HSI) at ConExpo-Con/Agg.

On display were the company’s new heavy-duty six-row cage mill and the Grand Slam GS4860 HSI.

The Stedman cage mill, which is designed for finer grinding of soft to medium abrasive applications, features a high-percentage pass (75 micron, 200 mesh), a lower installed system cost, and less complicated controls and operation. Among the applications the cage mill fits are agricultural lime, hydrated lime and quicklime.

Air classification can be integrated into the system, Stedman says, as it is designed for easier maintenance and high uptime. The cage mill comes in a modular design with integrated power and controls. A higher capacity four-row cage design is available, as well.

The Grand Slam GS4860, meanwhile, is ideal for use as a secondary crusher for either final sizing or for feeding a tertiary plant, according to Stedman. It can size material down to 1/2-in. minus.

The GS4860 has a maximum capacity of 300 tph, and it can handle a 12-in. maximum feed size. It is available in two-, three- or four-row breaker designs, with a higher first pass designed to increase product yield, the company says.

New to the show

TCI Manufacturing exhibited for the first time at ConExpo-Con/Agg. And although TCI is largely known for its offerings in screening and conveying, it introduced an HSI crusher series at the show.

According to TCI’s Patrick Reaver, his company began building impact crushers in 2016. TCI’s offerings have come a long way in seven years, he says.

“Some of those earlier models had a manual adjust, open rotors,” says Reaver, the president of TCI, which introduced the Lincoln HSIs at ConExpo-Con/Agg. “This crusher we’re featuring here is much more user-friendly. It’s meant for the customer [and] meant for being customer focused. We listen to customers, what they like and do not like, and we tried to put it into some of the features of this unit.”

Key features of Lincoln HSIs are a hydraulic adjust on the aprons and a robust rotor, Reaver adds.

“We have a straight-cut shaft,” he says. “That means the bearings are a standard off-the-shelf item [and] very easy to service in the field.”

Additional impactor findings

Hazemag also had an impactor focus at ConExpo-Con/Agg, displaying its HPI-H primary impactor and the HAZtronic automated control technology.

The HPI-H is designed to crush medium-hard rock down to a well-graded product size of up to 6 in., Hazemag says. The primary impactor is offered in 10 different sizes with capacities ranging from 150 to 800 tph.

In aggregate and recycling operations, Hazemag says the HPI-H is used for pre-crushing without a grinding path. In cement operations, the crusher is used with a grinding path for the production of a raw material with the ideal grain size distribution for further grinding in vertical roller mills.

HAZtronic, meanwhile, delivers consistent product grading, easier and safer maintenance, as well as the ability to produce products that are needed the most at the touch of a button, Hazemag says. The company says the automated control tech helps to reduce downtime, offers smoother impactor operation, provides a quick visual observation of all functions, and comes with a bearing temperature monitoring system.
