Caterpillar dealer to open shop in Cuba

By |  November 1, 2017

Reuters reports that Caterpillar Inc.’s dealer for Cuba, Rimco, will open a distribution center for the company at Havana’s Mariel special development zone. According to the report, Cuba created the zone three years ago to attract foreign capital with tax and customs breaks to boost its economy.

Reuters says the deal to open the distribution center came as worsening U.S.-Cuban political relations are curbing U.S. business interest in Cuba. The deal also came after the United States said it would vote against a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the lifting of the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba, Reuters adds.

Rimco, a privately held company, is a Caterpillar dealer for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Islands.
