mine_rescue_manualThe Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration released a mining manual titled, “Mine Rescue Manual: A Comprehensive Guide for Mine Rescue Team Members.”

The manual was prepared and tested at the Colorado School of Mines and is designed to “help mine rescue teams address emergency situations successfully by maximizing the protection of human life while minimizing the cost to the corporation reputation,” according to SME.

Topics in the manual include surface operations and incident command, gases and ventilation, team safety, injured workers, communications, legal and regulatory compliance and reporting, and mine recovery and operations.

“There are other materials on mine rescue available, but it is scattered among training centers, universities and government agencies,” says David L. Kanagy, SME executive director. “The authors have brought together the best available information in the industry and coalesced the material into one concise reference manual.”
