MINExpo International 2016 officially opened Monday morning in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Grand Lobby with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Kevin Crutchfield, chairman of Contura Energy Inc., welcomed MINExpo attendees with remarks along with Gov. Brian Sandoval, R-Nevada, and Denise Johnson, MINExpo chair and group president for resource industries at Caterpillar Inc.

“I know many of you have traveled throughout the world to be here, and we want to make sure you have the very best time you can possibly have,” Sandoval says. “I’m a strong supporter of mining, and I’m very pleased with the mining industry in our great state.”

According to Johnson, MINExpo is like no other exhibition.

“It’s dedicated solely to the global mining community,” she says. “It showcases how to be more efficient and economical with the use of the world’s resources, as well as the global reach of U.S. mining technology and expertise.

Sponsored by the National Mining Association (NMA), MINExpo is held every four years. MINExpo International 2016 features more than 1,900 exhibitors. NMA anticipates the show will draw more than 40,000 attendees from more than 130 countries.
