Vulcan Materials Co. said on Nov. 17 that it plans to lay off 38 of its 200 employees in the North Carolina Triad region because of decreased demand for its products in a down economy, the Winston-Salem Journal reported. The temporary layoff will start Dec. 19 and is expected to end March 1 for the company's Mideast division in Winston-Salem, N.C.
