The latest segment of a safety training video produced by the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) has completed filming at Martin Engineering’s global headquarters in Neponset, Ill.

Filming as part of CEMA’s effort to improve safety for those who work on or around belt conveyors, the video crew used the Process Simulation Conveyor System in the company’s Center for Innovation (CFI) as a functioning backdrop for video scenes.

The Process Simulation System is a group of three production-scale belt conveyors, arranged to carry bulk material in a recirculating loop. Martin Engineering uses this facility at CFI to evaluate the performance of products and prototypes on full-size equipment under realistic operating conditions.

CFI made a good location for the videotaping, explained Eddie Darbone, owner of Treasured Video Productions. “The facility uses genuine equipment, so the footage will be authentic, rather than artificial or studio-like,” he said. “Yet it’s indoors and well-lighted, which helps control some of the variables that can create problems for any video project.”

Todd Swinderman, Martin Engineering’s chief technology officer, who is also serving as the president of CEMA for 2009, offered the facilities at CFI for the video.

The video shot in Neponset will be combined with footage from other locations to complete CEMA’s Belt Conveyor Safety Video. The finished training program will become available in March 2010.
