ConExpo-Con/Agg 2008 was even better than advertised. The largest trade show in our industry broke records for attendance,
and exhibitors we spoke with were thrilled with the event. The halls were packed with buyers (except for the useless final
day), and one company official told us they received 100 solid sales leads the first morning of the show. Our staff noticed
it, too. There is no denying it was the most successful ConExpo we've attended.
What does that say about recession? Nothing really. Residential building is still hurting, and the overall economy might be
headed for a recession — or in one already. But buoyed by nonresidential building and nonbuilding construction, our industry
is doing well.
And ConExpo was only the first in a series of shows coming down the pike. Next up is MINExpo, slated for September in Las
Vegas. Then, early next year, the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association launches its new event — Agg 1. (NSSGA changed
the name from World of Aggregates.)
