Lafarge helps to clean up Illinois rivers
April 28, 2009Lafarge North America has partnered with the Living Lands & Waters (LL&W) organization to help remove garbage along riverbanks, plant trees and educate the public about the importance of environmental responsibility. The Lafarge Cave-In-Rock Quarry in Hardin County, Ill., recently hosted three days of events, including educational programs and volunteer workdays for local school students and company employees. Elementary students, winners of an Earth Day poster contest, were provided with a unique floating canvas to paint: a maintenance barge used by the quarry. High school students gathered for an inspirational presentation given by Chad Pregracke, founder of LL&W, describing how he discovered his mission in life at the age of 22 while working to clean up the Mississippi River. Junior-high students, along with Lafarge employees, planted trees at the local baseball field.
