Caterpillar Inc. executive wins AEM award
November 9, 2009Girish Parvate-Patil of Caterpillar Inc. is the 2009 winner of the AEM Outstanding Young Engineer Award sponsored by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) for SAE International.

The AEM award was first presented in 1996. AEM underwrites the award as part of its efforts to promote workforce development and excellence. The candidate must be a degreed engineer from the off-highway or power plant industry with less than 10 years of industry experience. The award recognizes an outstanding young engineer in the off-highway or power plant industry who demonstrates innovation, teamwork, integrity, community involvement and leadership in SAE International activities.
Girish Parvate-Patil is an engine performance analyst in Global Engine Development within Caterpillar’s Product Development Center of Excellence located in Mossville, Ill.
In his role with Caterpillar, Parvate-Patil is responsible for the Tier III and Tier IV engine rating development for off-highway applications. Prior to joining Caterpillar Inc., he was a project lead at the Engine Systems Development Center in Montreal, Canada, where he was actively involved in engine testing and applied research on biodiesel fuels.
Parvate-Patil has presented papers at the SAE Small Engine Technology Conference; the papers were then published in the Journal of Engines of SAE Transactions. He also has co-authored several papers in the fields of variable valve timing and biodiesels for ASME and ImechE.
Parvate-Patil has been a member of SAE International for seven years and serves on the governing board of SAE’s Central Illinois Section. He was involved with Formula SAE and SAE Supermileage.
Parvate-Patil holds a bachelor's degree in production engineering from Kolhapur Institute of Technology’s, College of Engineering in Kolhapur, India, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. During his graduate program, he was the recipient of the Norman D. Hebert Award for excellence in research.
