Looking ahead

September 17, 2008 By: P&Q Staff Pit & Quarry

As we prepare to go to press with this issue of Pit & Quarry, a lot is happening at our magazine and in the aggregates industry. Our staff is preparing to leave for MINExpo International 2008, the second huge industry trade show this year. In our November issue, we’ll be bringing you information about the new equipment and technologies for the aggregates industry that were on display in Las Vegas. We’re also preparing for 2009, which will include coverage of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s new AGG 1 Aggregates Forum & Expo. Pit & Quarry will keep you up-to-date on all the developments as NSSGA moves toward it’s all-in-one event that takes place next March in Orlando.

Election coverage

The 2008 election is right around the corner, and our Senior Editor Brian Richesson reports on the presidential candidates and their stance on transportation infrastructure issues (page 44). We also examine NSSGA’s political action committee — ROCKPAC.

The main focus of this issue is screening and sizing equipment. I visit an operation in Canada that replaced all of its screens with quieter, longer-lasting synthetic panels (page 8). Dufferin Aggregates is a large operation that serves the Toronto area, and the reduction in noise resulting from the new screens should go a long way toward maintaining good community relations.

Beginning on page 16, we feature several pages of the latest in screening technology. The top manufacturers have a lot to offer, so take a look.

On the job

For years, Pit & Quarry has been your aggregates-equipment magazine. In that spirit, we’ve launched a new product page called On the Job (page 32). Here we spotlight some of the smaller tools and accessories workers use everyday in the field — items such as safety glasses, hand tools, radios, flashlights, etc. Check it out.
