David Zatezalo, assistant secretary of labor for the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), will speak at the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration’s (SME) upcoming conference in Minneapolis.

Specifically, Zatezalo will address SME’s Health & Safety Division’s Plenary Session on Feb. 26 and participate in a session about safety management.

The session will give attendees the opportunity to hear from Zatezalo and several other high-profile speakers from the global mining industry, including Mike Wright of International United Steel Workers, Patrick James of Lehigh Hanson, Matthew Pederson-Howard of Peabody Energy and Jeff Kohler of Penn State University.

According to SME, the conference’s Health & Safety Division sessions will provide unique opportunities for professionals to get information on how the global mining industry interfaces with a variety of health and safety regulatory frameworks and management systems. Attendees will also gain insights on prescriptive and risk-based approaches in an era of technology-enhanced smart mining.
