The rated payload of Caterpillar’s 990K is 17.5 tons – up from the 16.5-ton payload of the company’s H Series model. The increased payload makes the loader a four-pass match with the Cat 775 truck, the company says. A Cat C27 ACERT engine powers the 990K and delivers an 11-percent increase in power compared with the company’s previous model. Net power of 699 hp helps to deliver increased production without any change in fuel consumption, Cat adds. Also, running at a lower engine speed helps to drive economical fuel use, and additional fuel savings accrue with the machine’s eco mode, engine-idle shutdown system and engine-idle kick-down. According to Cat, the 990K is available as a Tier 4 Final loader. No regeneration or operator intervention is required for the NOx reduction system and diesel oxidation catalyst equipping the Tier 4 Final model.
