The National Industrial Sand Association (NISA) presented Mark Krumenacher, senior vice president of GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc., with its Recognition of Excellence Award at the Industrial Minerals Association 2017 Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The award is NISA’s highest honor and typically recognizes a lifetime of achievement and contributions to the industrial sand industry.

“It was both an honor and humbling to be recognized by my peers with this award,” Krumenacher says. “Active participation in organizations like NISA is critical to advancing our field and to our collective ability to operate in a way that supports environmental health and safety.”

Based in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Krumenacher is an expert on aggregate and industrial mineral mining, providing testimony before a wide range of state and federal boards, local environmental groups and community advisory councils on issues associated with non-metallic mining.

A member of the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Association board of directors and the Minnesota silica sand rulemaking advisory panel in 2014-15, Krumenacher is actively involved in NISA; the National Stone Sand & Gravel Association; Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers; Industrial Minerals Association-North America; and Society for Mining Metallurgy & Exploration.
