Kids take to ‘Sand Mine’

By |  May 24, 2012

The Ohio Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Association (OAIMA) held a “Sand Mine” event, which was attended by more than 2,500 elementary school children during the week, and another 1,000 kids and parents on Family Day, May 19.

Pat Jacomet, executive director of the association, says, “So far, our office has received nearly 100 cards, letters and drawings from several of the classes in attendance. Not only did the kids find aggregates, industrial minerals and even miniature bricks, but they worked with volunteers to identify their ‘treasures’ and determine where each is used in their daily lives.”

OAIMA hopes to use this project as a model for similar events throughout the state.
