Congress prepares for debate, vote on transportation legislation
February 13, 2012The House and Senate have completed committee markups of their versions of the surface transportation reauthorization, and both chambers are expected to debate and vote on their bills this week. The House is considering a five-year, $260 billion bill called the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, while the Senate’s version – Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) – is for two years and $109 billion. The current extension of the highway funding program expires on March 31.
