CalCIMA conference to celebrate mineral heritage
September 3, 2010The California Construction and Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) will celebrate California’s geologic heritage at its 2010 Annual Education Conference on Sept. 22-24 in San Diego. The conference theme is Our Mineral Heritage: More Relevant Than Ever.
The conference will highlight policies that have been influential in promoting and managing California’s geologic resources. It coincides with the 150th anniversary of the California Geological Survey, which maps and identifies the state’s mineral resources, and the 125th anniversary of the State Mining & Geology Board, which develops mineral policy.
Key speakers will include state geologist John Parrish, State Mining & Geology Board officer Stephen Testa and the Office of Mine Reclamation’s James Pompy.
The conference will conclude with the presentation of awards for mine reclamation and plant safety. The Office of Mine Reclamation will present the Reclamation Awards, and CalCIMA’s Safety & Health Committee will present the annual CalCIMA Safety Awards for plant managers.
In between, there will be a full agenda of education programs focusing on the permitting, legislative, regulatory and business landscape in California, with special emphasis on sustainability, air, water and greenhouse gas issues. Included are scheduled talks from a legislative leader and the state labor commissioner’s office.
