Knife River Corp. restructures overall operations
September 8, 2010In a strategic effort to streamline its business and management structure, Knife River Corp. reorganized all of its operations under three leaders. The Western Area, led by area President Dave Barney, encompasses Knife River’s Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho operations. The Central Area includes Knife River’s Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Texas operations, and is under the guidance of area President Tim Crennen. The Energy Services Division, based in Sioux City, Iowa, will remain under the leadership of President Irving Jensen. This division specializes in bulk liquid asphalt cement and has additional terminals in Waco, Texas, and Corson, S.D.
“In this tough economy we need to be more focused and efficient in all aspects of our business, including senior management. This is the right move under the right leadership,” said Knife River Corp. President and CEO Bill Schneider. “Dave, Tim and Irving are excellent ‘hands-on’ business leaders with extensive knowledge and experience in the construction industry. Under their leadership, they will ensure Knife River is strategically prepared for an upward turn in the economy and our industry.”
Through a 1993 acquisition, Barney joined Knife River and became president of two northern California operations in 1997, moving on to Pacific Region president and then president of the entire Pacific and Northwest operations. His experience includes over 30 years working in construction.
Crennen joined Knife River in 1999, initially working in the Billings Division. He was later promoted to lead the North Central Region, based in St. Cloud, Minn. Crennen has 27 years of experience in the construction materials and contracting industry.
Jensen started working in his family’s highway and heavy construction business at an early age. After college, he started in the refinery industry and in 1992 returned to work with Jebro Inc., becoming the COO in 1996. In 2005, Knife River acquired Jebro and has since expanded the operations under Jensen’s direction.
